Hi, I met Mick when he was in Heaven, touring with Judas Priest. I'm sure he's resting in peace and has someone there with him he never knew about. I don't know much about his life after the short time I had met him, that was over 25 years ago. I wished I could have spoke with him again, but hadn't heard of him coming back to the United States. My heart goes out to all of you missing him.

Well Mick I was quite saddened to learn of your passing just before heading off overseas on 23/12/2009. I must say that I spent a fair amount of time during that flight thinking about our early teens and the fun times we had back then. There was plenty of kicking the football up and down the street using our respective driveways as the goals. The scoreline was fairly even in the end. Then of course there were the many hours spent in my parent’s lounge room with Micky B. singing and playing along with makeshift instruments to Satisfaction, Tin Soldier, Gloria and pretty much the entire Jimi Hendrix Smash Hits collection. We blew the crap out of that old record player and microphone. We dreamt of starting a band and learning to play real instruments and I remember the day I got an amp for you to plug in the guitar you’d just bought. I connected it up in your bedroom, turned up the volume and strummed a few notes. You came running in saying “hey Rob how did you learn to play like that? That was great!” It was the first time either of us had heard your guitar through an amp and neither of us had a clue how to play it. We did dream of playing in a rock band but mate you ended up living that dream. I’ve seen articles referring to you as a rock god and going by your achievements and the tributes written here there’s no reason to doubt it. Rest in Peace Mick, those teenage memories will never be forgotten.

1979-1980,in a music store in Paris with a hign school friend, watching a promoted new album: Rose Tatto\'s first lp,been impressed by the picture, the group on stage, that little bald man looking at his guitarist, simulating a guitar playing...like us in our bedrooms listening to Scorpions or Motorhead,no \"chi-chis\", no strass, no make-up, only brute Rock\'n\'Roll, just seeing that layer! I kept it in memory, didn\'t buy the thing( no money), heard \"Rock\'n\'Outlaw\" on the radio some days after, recognized it before hearing the name of the band! No disappointement! No treachery, the packaging looked like the inside product!I loved rock rythm guitar before, so Cocks riffs were my \"remedy\" to teenager blues! The sound of that album is still a \"reference\", Angry never sung so perfectly dirtly! Astra Wally\'s intro is master piece, see the You tube video of that tune in 81, there\'s no more to say after seeing Angry giving all that he has and even more, while the rythm machine behind is leading us to trance as well as a deedjereedoo would...So Thank you Mister Cocks, Mister Wells, Mister \"Digger Royal\" for those moments of Highness that inlightened my youth.

Sadly, all the best guys are departing. Pete Wells, Lobby Lloyde, Thorpie, Rilen. Mick Cocks was a legend. His 'stutter' gun playing style was unique and rapid. He was damn cool. How cool ? Lets not forget Guns n Roses asked him to join them. That was not widely known - from memory they asked Wells at one point too. I saw him play across many pubs over many years. I saw him play with Pete Wells band, with TMG, with the Wild Colinial Boys, with Heart Attack...and of course with the Tatts. I never saw him with Heaven, but the stuff he rcoded with them was truly great. We have lost another of our genuine true breed. You can never replace guys like this. They are authentic. Cliche maybe, but I hope he's now playing guitar somewhere, left of Pete Wells, as he always was......rest in peace.

A sad day, as the fourth founding member of Rose Tattoo left due to the mercyless desease.

Mick was one of the backbones of the band and was a hige part in creating the sound we all love to this day. As as far as anybody who got to know him goes, he was a hell of a nice guy.

Mick, I hope you have fun now, where much to many of the good guys went the last years. Rest in peace.

Very sad news. The one and only time i met Mick was around 1975, just before him and Angry headed to Sydney to create the band. I remember an affable bloke, and a black Les Paul. I was also proud to listen to his amazing rythym guitar work and say....I played in that band. R.I.P. Mick, and condolences to family and friends. Greg.

Met Mick and the boys at Wacken \'07 and went back stage with them after a show a week later at Dusseldorf - awesome memories of an unpretentious, true gentleman, as we shared a couple of Germany\'s finest. Got them all to sign a Rock \'n Roll outlaw T shirt that I have not worn since - might have to give it another run now! I know my old mate Johnny Shearer in Glasgow would be feeling the pain right now too...Mick you are a legend. RIP. Condolences to those close. T.F.F.T

This is a sad day. I had a few drinks in the 70s with Mick at the Manzil and was lucky enough to witness some of those incredible early Tatts shows at the Bondi Lifesaver and a lot of Heaven\'s gigs in the early 80s. His work with Doomfox should not be overlooked either. A consumate rocker, powerhouse rhythm player and true gentleman. They don\'t make them like that anymore. Rest well Mick, you\'ve earned it.

You played us songs until the crack of dawn,
You slide to the corner stage and whispered,\"its your shout\"
You held out hands when you needed out
You were a true gentleman without a doubt. You showed us true rock n roll and made that guitar talk with your smoke sticking out.Tis the sadest day...with tears down our face, you now have centre stage with a solo to us all.THE LAST WALTZ....Goodbye my friend we will miss you forever...

As an Aussie expat who likes to play to play a bit of rock n' roll with other people from around the world, I would have to say that Rose Tattoo are by far and away the finest example of pure rock that Australia has to offer! Whether they be from the Americas, Europe, Asia or any else in the world, time and time again, music lovers who haven't grown up with the Tatts' are always amazed at the energy and sound of this rocking band and at how well their music has dated.
Mick Cocks, you are a true Aussie icon! Your passing is not only a sad day for Australian music but for people who truly appreciate good rock n' roll around the world.
You are one of the reasons it's easy to say 'I am proud to be Australian!'

Saw Tattoo many times with Mick during the 80s & 90s in Melb. However it was during his time in Heaven that we got to meet him a few times in the early 80s. He was a CARLTON supporter & once told me that "if we loose the Final tomorrow I doubt I can play the gig that Sat nite!" Izzy from GNR & Lars from RANCID once told me "they loved ROSE TATTOO!"

Sad news from the Tatts camp, sounds like Mick was in good spirits toward the end, but he was always in good spirits: We'll miss the best rhythm guitarist in the land, but more importantly, we'll miss a great bloke - Mick (like Pete & the rest of this band) always had time for a chat with the fans before & after a gig (sometimes during?), he would sometimes dread when he saw me heading toward him for yet another 'question about guitars...'
RIP Mick, & strength to the band through this sad time

Mick didn't loose his battle because he couldn't win in this unfair fight : he just fronted it with proud and dignity...his way to play guitar, his smile and pleasure to do jokes will never die in our mind...
but no comedy...i'm very very sad today...
My best thoughts to his family.
Cheers
Annie

I was shocked to read this sad news. Mick is one of the legends of Australian music. He's still too young to be leaving us. I bought my first Tats album when I was about 12, I'm bloody 38 now, and have seen you guys play in Germany and Oz. Mick and the tatts will never die as long as the music lives. Those Germans love you guys, they'll be sad too. RIP Mick!
